Plant-based burgers good enough to make the overall top 100, not just a vegan list. 2 spots, ranked.
London's best vegan burgers come from two kinds of place. First, the fully plant-based kitchens: Mildreds, which spent more than 30 years as a vegetarian restaurant before going fully plant-based in 2021, and The Vurger Co, which grew from a 2016 market stall into a restaurant in Shoreditch. At both, everything on the menu is vegan, so nobody in the group has to check.
Second, burger places that take their meat-free option seriously. At Empire Tavern in Hackney and Leytonstone Tavern, the Plant Powered burger (£13) gets the same treatment as the dry-aged beef: a Symplicity patty, vegan cheese, burger sauce, pickle and mustard jam, and chopped onion. Plenty of other spots on the map have a veggie burger too, but these are the ones where it's a reason to go.
